Police Detective Accused of Drug Theft Sparks Shocking Misuse Scandal

Arrest

WEST CHESTER, PA — A West Goshen Township police officer has been charged with allegations of theft and drug possession following an investigation by the Chester County District Attorney’s Office. David Maurer, 55, who served as a Detective Sergeant, was arrested on November 20, 2024, and accused of taking controlled substances from a medication collection box.

According to authorities, medication collection boxes are part of a Chester County program designed to provide residents with a secure location to dispose of unwanted or expired medications safely. Maurer was reportedly assigned the responsibility of emptying these boxes located at the West Goshen Township Police Department and Chester County Hospital. It is alleged that during this process, he removed multiple pill bottles containing controlled substances and kept them for personal use rather than delivering them to the designated collection site for proper disposal.

Maurer has been charged with Possession of Controlled Substances and Theft by Unlawful Taking. After his arrest, he was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Martin Goch and was released on his own recognizance.

The Chester County Detectives are continuing their investigation into the matter. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.

The charges against Maurer remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
