Pepper Spray Chaos: What Really Happened in Kennett Square?

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — In the late hours of August 29, 2024, the Kennett Square Police Department responded to an incident involving the alleged use of pepper spray on patrons at a business located in the 200 block of East State Street. The suspect, identified as Maurice Corporal Jr., was found outside the police headquarters when officers arrived.

Upon making contact with Corporal, officers noted a strong scent of alcohol and observed that he was experiencing irritation in his eyes. He claimed to have been sprayed with pepper spray himself. A search conducted by law enforcement revealed a large, depleted canister of bear pepper spray concealed in his left pant leg.

Following interviews with the victims at the scene, Corporal  was taken into custody under allegations of aggravated assault and related offenses. He was subsequently transported to Chester County Prison’s Central Booking. The case is currently pending a preliminary hearing. It is crucial to emphasize that these are allegations at this stage, and Corporal is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
