HARRISBURG, PA — A Butler County jury has convicted Shaun Sheffer, 45, of multiple charges related to the sexual assault of a pre-teen child who was seven years old when the abuse began. Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the conviction this week, marking another significant step in addressing cases associated with a Statewide Investigating Grand Jury inquiry into the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith.
Sheffer was found guilty of three counts of rape, including the rape of a person with a mental disability, and three counts of indecent assault. The charges stem from abuse that occurred in Butler County between 1995 and 2000 when the victim was between the ages of seven and 12. According to testimony, Sheffer was a trusted acquaintance of the victim, which facilitated the repeated assaults.
Sentencing is scheduled for February.
“This defendant sexually assaulted a victim who was wholly vulnerable due to their age and mental disability,” said Attorney General Henry. “I commend the grand jurors, the trial jurors, and, of course, the brave victim for ensuring a predator did not escape justice.”
The charges originated from the 49th Investigating Grand Jury and were filed and prosecuted by the Office of Attorney General. The case was led by Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner.
