WILMINGTON, DE — The Delaware State Police have charged a Pennsylvania man in connection with a series of burglaries that occurred in 2024 at the former site of Emily Bissell Hospital, a now-closed facility located in Wilmington.

The investigation began in August 2024, when troopers responded to multiple reports of trespassing and thefts at the vacant hospital on Newport Gap Pike. Authorities allege that two individuals were responsible for stealing items, including what appeared to be copper, and loading them into the bed of a black Ford truck. The thefts reportedly caused significant property damage.

Through investigative efforts, police identified the suspects as 47-year-old Robert Potts of Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, and an accomplice, Francis Rickards. Warrants were subsequently issued for their arrests.

On February 17, 2025, Robert Potts was extradited from Pennsylvania to Delaware. He was taken into custody by troopers and transported to Troop 2, where he was formally charged with multiple offenses, including four counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of criminal mischief exceeding $5,000, and various theft and conspiracy charges.

Potts was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and released after posting a $5,000 secured bond.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that charges remain allegations, and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
