Pennsylvania Man Accused in String of Claymont Storage Unit Burglaries – Arrest Made

CLAYMONT, DE — Detectives with the New Castle County Division of Police have announced the arrest of a Pennsylvania man in connection with a string of alleged storage unit burglaries in the Claymont area.

Giovanni Silvestri, 44, of Aston, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, following an investigation into incidents reported between July and October of this year. Authorities allege that Silvestri was involved in multiple burglaries that targeted storage units on Ridge Road and Hickman Road in Claymont.

According to police, investigative measures led to the identification of Silvestri as the primary suspect. Acting on a search warrant, detectives, in coordination with the Aston Police Department, located Silvestri at a residence on West 7th Street in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania. He was arrested on-site and is currently being held in Pennsylvania as he awaits extradition to Delaware. Once transferred, Silvestri will face an array of felony and misdemeanor charges.

The charges against Silvestri include five felony counts of third-degree burglary, two felony counts of theft involving amounts of $1,500 or more, and one felony count of theft of a firearm. Additional charges include felony counts for possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy in the second degree. Silvestri also faces allegations of criminal mischief and theft involving amounts under $1,500, including an incident where the victim is reportedly 62 years of age or older.
