Parolee Arrested After Chase as 11 Charged in Sweeping Western PA Gun Crimes Crackdown

Arrest

HARRISBURG, PA — Authorities have announced criminal charges against 11 individuals from western Pennsylvania in connection with alleged illegal possession and transfers of firearms. The charges stem from investigations led by the Allegheny County Gun Violence Task Force, a multi-agency effort aimed at curbing gun violence and targeting offenders involved in illegal firearm activities.

Among those charged is Stanford A. Russell Jr., 33, of Pittsburgh, who was arrested on Thursday after a vehicle stop escalated into a foot chase. Officers apprehended Russell at his home on Jonathan Court, where they recovered a revolver, firearms accessories, and illegal drugs. Russell, currently on parole for prior felony convictions, is being held without bail.

The task force, which operates under the Office of the Attorney General, includes collaboration with the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Division, Pennsylvania State Parole, Allegheny County Police Department, Swissvale Police Department, and Pittsburgh Police Department. The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office will handle prosecution for the implicated parties.

Attorney General Dave Sunday described the impact of the illegal firearms trade as a significant concern, stating, “Straw purchases and other illegal transfers of firearms are direct safety threats to our communities, and this task force is devoted to tracking offenders and the firearms which so often end up at violent crime scenes.” He commended the coordinated efforts of the agencies involved in these investigations.

The other individuals recently charged include Daniel Crow, Taylor Murphy, Juliona Upsher, Vance Arrington, Aiyanna Crosby, Danielle Pinkston, Tejuan Davis, Daemon Davis, Jaidon Berry, and Sarah Woodruff. The defendants, who are from various locations including Pittsburgh, McKeesport, Trafford, and Verona, face a range of charges such as felony violations of Pennsylvania’s Uniform Firearms Act and conspiracy.

Officials noted that some of the defendants are believed to have acted as co-conspirators, though Russell is thought to have operated independently. Investigations into potential links between the accused individuals remain ongoing.

The charges spotlight the continuing work of the Allegheny County Gun Violence Task Force, which actively tracks illegal firearms transactions and identifies connections between offenders and weapons frequently connected to violent crimes.

Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations, and any defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
