PARKESBURG, PA — The Parkesburg Borough Police Department reports that 19-year-old Michael Eugene Carpenter was apprehended on Tuesday as a fugitive from justice, wanted on a felony warrant related to allegations of “swatting.”

“Swatting” is a dangerous and illegal act where an individual falsely reports a severe emergency – such as a shooting or hostage situation – to prompt an intense law enforcement response against an unsuspecting target. These hoax calls can lead to significant risks, including potential harm to innocent bystanders and a waste of critical public safety resources.

The arrest took place on the 500 block of West First Avenue in Parkesburg, far from the Ohio jurisdiction issuing the felony warrant. Details surrounding the alleged swatting incidents in Ohio have not been released at this time.

Nevertheless, an arrest or the filing of criminal charges does not constitute a declaration of guilt. Carpenter, like all suspects, arrestees, or defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Further information about this case will be reported as it becomes available.
