WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police have apprehended Omar Martinez, a 23-year-old resident of Wilmington, in connection with an alleged burglary at a car dealership in Wilmington. The incident unfolded in the early hours of November 12, 2024, at Preston Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, located on Kirkwood Highway.
At approximately 1:06 a.m., law enforcement officials responded to a burglary report at the dealership. Upon arrival, troopers identified an unknown individual in the showroom. Working in coordination with the New Castle County Police Department, officers secured the premises and issued verbal commands instructing the suspect to exit the building. The suspect, later identified as Martinez, initially complied but subsequently resisted arrest, resulting in the use of a Taser to facilitate his apprehension.
A search of Martinez’s belongings revealed a hammer inside his backpack. Preliminary investigations indicated that Martinez allegedly gained entry into the showroom by breaking a glass window on the building’s west side.
Following his arrest, Martinez was transported to Troop 2, where he faced multiple charges. These included third-degree burglary, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, possession of burglar tools, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief under $1,500. After being arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, Martinez was released on an $8,000 unsecured bond.
As with all criminal cases, it is crucial to remember that these charges are merely allegations. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
