NEWARK, DE — A 20-year-old Newark man has been charged in connection with an alleged reckless driving incident that reportedly ended in a minor hit-and-run and multiple traffic violations.
According to the Newark Police Department, on February 19, 2025, an officer observed a white Honda Accord traveling at an excessive speed along South College Avenue. The vehicle was allegedly weaving dangerously between lanes, including using the road shoulder and crossing into oncoming traffic to overtake other vehicles.
When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver reportedly refused to comply, accelerating away and fleeing the scene. During the pursuit, the vehicle was allegedly involved in a minor collision that caused property damage before leaving the area.
Investigators later identified the driver as Abraham Hernandez, 20, of Newark. Officers obtained an arrest warrant and apprehended Hernandez at his home on February 27 without further incident.
Hernandez now faces a series of charges, including one felony count of disregarding a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest, and 18 additional traffic violations. Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court #2, bail was set at $1,114 unsecured. He has since been released and is scheduled to appear before the Court of Common Pleas at a later date.
Authorities have reiterated that all charges are allegations, and Hernandez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
