WILMINGTON, DE — Police have indicted two men in connection with the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Zaahir Thorton in August 2023.
The incident occurred on August 28, 2023, at approximately 6:32 a.m., when officers responded to East 24th and North Pine Streets and found Thorton fatally wounded. Following an investigation led by Detective Derek Haines, 26-year-old Nyzier Cannon-Wilson and 25-year-old Aaron Watson were identified as suspects.
On March 31, 2025, the case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment for both men. At the time of the indictment, Cannon-Wilson and Watson were already held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on unrelated charges.
Both suspects face charges including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and first-degree conspiracy. They remain in custody pending further proceedings.
Authorities emphasize that all charges are allegations, and Cannon-Wilson and Watson are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
