WILMINGTON, DE — Police have charged a 28-year-old man with multiple offenses following an alleged disturbance and assault at the Midway Plaza Apartments on Old Capitol Trail late Monday night.
Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to reports of a disturbance at the apartment complex on December 16, 2024, at approximately 11:14 p.m. According to officials, the disturbance involved an individual yelling in the hallway and kicking an apartment door.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Zachary Yeldell, 28, in the hallway, where he allegedly became combative. Police allege that Yeldell physically assaulted the responding officer by striking them in the face and other areas. Despite Yeldell’s alleged resistance, the officer was able to gain control of the situation with assistance from another officer. The initial officer suffered injuries during the altercation and was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being released.
Yeldell was also treated at a local hospital for injuries before being taken into custody. He was later transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was formally charged with the following:
- One felony count of second-degree assault involving injury to a law enforcement officer
- One felony count of resisting arrest with force or violence
- One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest
- One misdemeanor count of offensive touching of a law enforcement officer
- One misdemeanor count of criminal mischief under $1,000
- One misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct
Yeldell was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 02, where he was issued $8,200 secured bail. After failing to post bail, he was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities remind the public that all charges are allegations, and those accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
