NEWARK, DE — A 27-year-old woman from Middletown, Delaware, faces multiple charges after being accused of a home invasion and assaults involving pepper spray in Newark earlier this month.
The incident occurred on April 5, 2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., when Newark Police officers responded to a fight near East Main Street and Choate Street. Upon their arrival, officers learned that a suspect had fled the scene after deploying a chemical irritant, suspected to be pepper spray, leaving multiple people injured.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a physical altercation had taken place in the unit block of Choate Street between two individuals. Afterward, as groups gathered to discuss the altercation, a woman reportedly approached a residence on Choate Street, attempted to force her way inside, and pushed past a resident who tried to block her entry. Once inside, she allegedly used pepper spray against individuals attempting to remove her from the property, causing eye and skin irritation to several victims.
After being forced out of the house, the suspect reportedly sprayed more people outside before fleeing the area in a vehicle that traveled the wrong way on the one-way street. Police reported that eight individuals experienced symptoms consistent with exposure to the irritant.
Detectives from the Newark Police Department launched an investigation, reviewing footage from the City’s Public Safety Camera System, which helped identify the suspect’s vehicle. Registration details obtained from the footage led investigators to name London Marie Young as the suspect. A warrant was issued for Young, who voluntarily surrendered to police on April 19, 2025.
Young has been charged with the following offenses:
- Home invasion burglary first degree with physical injury
- Eight counts of second-degree assault for the use of disabling chemical spray
- Third-degree assault
- Driving the wrong way on a one-way road
Young was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and was released on $40,100 unsecured bail. She was also issued a No Contact Order to prevent further interaction with the victims.
Law enforcement reminds the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Further details regarding the case have not been released.
