WILMINGTON, DE — A 66-year-old Wilmington resident has been arrested following an investigation by New Castle County’s Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) into a suspected heroin/fentanyl-related overdose death.

The investigation began on February 14, 2025, when officers responded to the unit block of Champlain Avenue in Wilmington for a reported overdose death. Authorities determined that the victim had allegedly purchased heroin/fentanyl from Barbara Dennis, leading them to obtain a search warrant for her residence.

During the search, officers reportedly located 5,468 bags of heroin/fentanyl totaling 164.04 grams, as well as a digital scale, 40 alprazolam pills, and 200 oxycodone pills. Dennis was taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where she was charged with multiple crimes, including drug manufacturing, possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Dennis was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $682,000 cash bail.

All allegations remain under investigation, and Dennis is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
