NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police arrested 59-year-old David Ramos of Wilmington in connection with an alleged burglary at a Shell gas station on New Castle Avenue early Friday morning.
Investigators responded to the gas station, located at 3001 New Castle Avenue, around 6:58 a.m. on April 4, 2025, following reports of a break-in. Upon arrival, troopers discovered extensive damage to the building, including multiple holes in the roof that caused significant water damage and flooding after overnight rainfall.
According to the investigation, the suspect, clad in a mask, allegedly cut the holes and entered the closed business at approximately 12:33 a.m. Once inside, the individual removed over $6,000 worth of tobacco products before fleeing on foot.
Through investigative efforts, Ramos was identified as the suspect in the case, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Troopers located him on April 6, 2025, at a nearby motel, where he was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of his motel room uncovered several of the stolen tobacco products.
Ramos was transported to Troop 2 and formally charged with the following offenses:
- Burglary 3rd Degree (Felony)
- Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- Possession of Burglar Tools (Felony)
- Theft of $1,500 or Greater (Felony)
- Criminal Mischief Causing $5,000 or More in Damage (Felony)
After his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, Ramos was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $16,000 cash.
Authorities continue to remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
