WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in Wilmington last month.

On November 1, at approximately 11:24 p.m., police responded to a location in the 1800 block of West 4th Street following a welfare check call. Upon arrival, officers discovered 30-year-old Tyler Ponzo, who was suffering from a severe laceration to his arm. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

A subsequent investigation by the Wilmington Police Department, in collaboration with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, confirmed that Ponzo’s death was the result of the stabbing incident.

Detective Derek Haines, assigned to the case, identified 29-year-old Souleymane Fadiga as a suspect following extensive inquiries. Warrants were issued for his arrest, and Fadiga was apprehended on November 22 in New York without incident. On December 23, Fadiga was extradited to Delaware to face legal proceedings.

Fadiga has been formally charged with manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $500,000 cash-only bail.

Officials emphasize that these charges are allegations and that legal proceedings will determine the outcome. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
