Manhunt Ends: Fugitive Caught Years After Attempted Illegal Gun Purchase

Arrest

WEST CHESTER, PA — Authorities have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the alleged attempted illegal purchase of a firearm in Chester County, Pennsylvania, following a multi-year investigation.

On February 6, 2025, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department announced the arrest of Kurt Kitchens, formerly of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Officials initiated the investigation nearly three years ago on March 7, 2022, when Kitchens allegedly attempted to purchase a firearm from a federal firearms dealer in East Goshen Township. The transaction was declined by the Pennsylvania Instant Checks System (PICS), operated by the Pennsylvania State Police. According to authorities, the system flagged Kitchens as a person prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

An arrest warrant for Kitchens was issued on March 15, 2022, signed by the Honorable Mackenzie W. Smith. However, Kitchens reportedly fled the state and relocated to San Diego, California, complicating efforts to bring him into custody. The investigation eventually culminated this month with his apprehension.

Kitchens has been charged with one felony count of “Materially False Written Statement” and one count of “Statement Under Penalty,” both linked to the alleged firearm purchase attempt. Specific details surrounding his arrest and extradition process have yet to be released.

Authorities remind the public that these charges are allegations, and Kitchens is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Updates regarding the case, including court proceedings, are expected as the legal process unfolds.
