WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities in Wilmington have charged a man in connection to the alleged fatal assault of a woman earlier this year. The charges stem from a death investigation conducted by the Wilmington Police Department.
On September 12, 2024, at approximately 9:43 a.m., police were dispatched to the 700 block of Catawba Street for a reported death. At the scene, officers discovered the body of 44-year-old Myeshia Triplett. Following a joint investigation by Detective Justin Kane of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, it was determined on September 16 that Triplett had allegedly been the victim of a fatal assault.
Through the course of the inquiry, police identified 26-year-old Kyle Batson, of Bear, Delaware, as a suspect in the case. Batson had reportedly been taken into custody in Maryland for unrelated charges on the same day as the Wilmington assault.
On December 4, Batson was extradited to Delaware to face charges in this case. He has been formally charged with first-degree murder, first-degree rape, second-degree rape, strangulation, and abuse of a corpse. Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 20, Batson was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $1,900,500 cash-only.
Law enforcement reminds the public that individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Authorities have not provided additional details at this time.
