Loaded Guns, Foot Chase, and an Arrest: Wilmington Police Detail Dramatic Capture

WILMINGTON, DE — A 22-year-old man is facing multiple firearms charges after an arrest in Wilmington on April 15, 2025. Authorities report that the incident unfolded following a routine vehicle stop, escalating into a brief foot chase and leading to the recovery of multiple weapons.

At approximately 11:11 a.m., officers with the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of Lafayette Boulevard. During the interaction, a passenger identified as Jermaine Winckler fled the vehicle on foot. Officers pursued and apprehended Winckler shortly after without further incident.

A search conducted after the arrest resulted in the recovery of three firearms, including a loaded 9mm handgun, a .38 caliber handgun, and a loaded .40 caliber handgun. Police confirmed that one of the recovered firearms had been reported stolen prior to the incident.

Winckler has been charged with three counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, as well as one count of resisting arrest. Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Winckler was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. Bail was set at $80,000 cash-only.
