KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Kennett Square Police Department has filed charges against a borough resident, 21-year-old Eric Castillo-Avalos, in connection with a stolen license plate case.
The incident began on July 21, 2023, when officers received a report about a license plate that had been stolen from a rental vehicle. Eight days later, on July 29, officers were alerted to an urgent hit confirmation regarding the stolen license plate.
Pennsylvania State Police out of Media had located the stolen license plate inside a vehicle that was involved in a single-vehicle crash. The operator of the crashed vehicle was identified as Eric Castillo-Avalos, a resident of Kennett Square Borough.
Despite several unsuccessful attempts to interview Castillo-Avalos, officers finally made contact with him on September 20, 2023, outside his residence. However, the information provided by Castillo-Avalos did not align with the timeline of the stolen license plate.
Taking into account the follow-up investigation and the totality of the circumstances, officers completed a criminal complaint. Charges have been filed at District Court 15-3-04 against Castillo-Avalos for the stolen license plate.
The charges include one count of Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition and one count of Receiving Stolen Property.
Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
