HARRISBURG, PA — David Balosa, a former member of a Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation in Philadelphia, has been sentenced to two to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a child in 1998. Alongside the prison term, Balosa will serve six years of probation and must register as a sex offender for life under SORNA requirements.
A Philadelphia County jury previously found Balosa guilty of two felony counts of aggravated indecent assault and related misdemeanors. During the sentencing, the victim provided a powerful statement, recounting the lasting impact of the assault on their life. Attorney General Dave Sunday praised the survivor’s courage in coming forward after so many years. “For many years, this survivor lived without a sense of justice or closure for crimes that they endured as a child — and without their bravery, this conviction would not have been possible,” Sunday said.
Balosa’s conviction stems from a broader investigation into sexual abuse within Jehovah’s Witnesses congregations across Pennsylvania. He is one of over a dozen members from these communities charged following Statewide Investigating Grand Jury findings.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Zachary Wynkoop, highlighting the Attorney General’s efforts to seek justice for survivors of abuse and holding perpetrators accountable.
