WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities are investigating a fatal assault that claimed the life of an 84-year-old Wilmington resident last year, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

The incident occurred on June 13, 2024, when officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of South Heald Street following reports of a domestic-related assault. Upon arrival, officers located Preston Hudson, the victim, who was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

However, in August, Hudson passed away due to complications related to his treatment following the assault. A subsequent ruling by the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences in December determined that his death was a direct result of the injuries sustained in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact Detective Brandon Mosley at (302) 576-3646 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

Police emphasize that allegations are subject to investigation, and all individuals involved are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
