HARRISBURG, PA — A Montgomery County man has been sentenced to three to six years in state prison, with an additional two years of probation, for defrauding homeowners of more than $156,000 through unfulfilled home improvement contracts.
Jared Wyllie, 48, operated under the business name PROjex, LLC, misleading clients into believing he was a licensed contractor. Between 2021 and 2022, Wyllie entered into agreements with four homeowners, accepting upfront payments for work that was either poorly executed or not completed. A Montgomery County judge ordered him to pay full restitution to the victims.
One victim recounted in court how they paid Wyllie over $100,000 for renovations that were never completed, ultimately forcing them to sell their home at a loss. Another homeowner described paying $27,900 for roof repairs and additional work, but instead received substandard wall repairs and a tarp placed over their roof. Other victims faced similarly incomplete projects despite significant payments, including one who paid $108,747 for unfinished demolition and remodeling.
Attorney General Dave Sunday condemned the actions, stating, “A person’s home is their castle, and the defendant caused immense financial and emotional damage to those who trusted him.” He urged homeowners to thoroughly research contractors before signing agreements.
The investigation uncovered that Wyllie used the contractor license information of another individual without authorization and had no valid registration of his own. Senior Deputy Attorney General Thomas Ost-Prisco prosecuted the case.
Wyllie’s actions left homeowners in financial distress, with many bearing the costs of unfinished or subpar work. The sentencing aims to provide accountability and restitution for the harm caused.
