BEAR, DE — A 25-year-old man has been arrested following a police pursuit that ended in a multi-vehicle crash and the discovery of a firearm and drugs in Bear.
On the afternoon of April 2, 2025, officers from the New Castle County Police Department‘s Mobile Enforcement Team were patrolling the Wellington Woods area when they spotted a silver Infiniti G37 bearing Pennsylvania temporary tags. The vehicle matched the description of one that had fled from law enforcement just two days earlier.
Officers identified the driver as Michael Rogers and attempted a traffic stop, but Rogers allegedly sped off recklessly in the direction of Pulaski Highway. Due to safety concerns, police disengaged from the pursuit. Moments later, Rogers crashed into another vehicle while driving on the highway shoulder. After striking a second vehicle, he came to a stop near Pulaski Highway and Porter Road. He then fled on foot but was taken into custody shortly after by officers in the area.
Police reported that the operator of the first vehicle struck by Rogers was hospitalized and released after treatment for injuries. Rogers was also treated at a local hospital before being released into police custody.
During their investigation, authorities conducted a search of the Infiniti, uncovering a loaded 9mm “ghost gun” with no serial number, 674.19 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, and 82 oxycodone pills.
Officials charged Rogers with an extensive list of offenses, including possession of an untraceable firearm, possession of drugs with intent to distribute, vehicular assault, resisting arrest, and other traffic-related violations. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Rogers was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $59,361 cash bail.
Authorities remind the public that all individuals charged are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
