NEW CASTLE, DE — Authorities are investigating the death of a 54-year-old man, initially believed to be the victim of a fatal hit-and-run, after autopsy findings ruled out injuries consistent with such an incident.
The incident occurred on January 9, 2025, around 4:00 a.m., when patrol officers responded to a call regarding a person lying in the roadway on the unit block of Reads Way. Emergency responders transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Traffic Services Unit at New Castle County Division of Police began probing the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. However, following an analysis from the Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined that the victim had not sustained injuries indicative of being struck by a vehicle or assaulted. The investigation has now been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Unit for further review.
