Gun Charges and a Stolen Car: How Wilmington Police Nabbed Two Suspects

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have detained two individuals following an incident involving gun-related charges and the recovery of a stolen vehicle. The arrests occurred on the evening of November 4, when officers from the Uniformed Services Division identified a stolen vehicle in the 1000 block of South Market Street.

Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, it reportedly fled the scene. Subsequently, the vehicle was located near Linden and Porter Streets, where two male suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Police quickly apprehended 20-year-old Darien Harden from Claymont, alongside a 17-year-old male from Edgemoor, following a brief pursuit. During the arrest, authorities recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.

Darien Harden faces multiple charges, including two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a destructive weapon, and resisting arrest. Harden was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with a cash-only bail set at $31,000.

The juvenile suspect is charged with several offenses, among them two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a destructive weapon, receiving stolen property valued over $1,500, disregarding a police officer’s signal, and resisting arrest, alongside various traffic violations. He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and is detained at the New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center with bail set at $31,000 secured.
