KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Authorities in Kennett Square recently uncovered an alleged attempt to defraud the borough’s financial system, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Nathaniel Tyree Curtis. The incident, which took place on December 27, 2023, involved the deposit of an altered and counterfeit check valued at $29,950 into Curtis’s business account via an ATM in Philadelphia.
The Kennett Square Police Department was alerted to the alleged fraudulent activity on December 28, 2023, and swiftly initiated an investigation. Due to the borough’s robust internal financial controls, no financial loss occurred. The investigation revealed cellular records placing Curtis at the ATM location during the time of the deposit, further linking him to the alleged crime.
Nathaniel Curtis, aged 29, is facing multiple charges, including forgery, access device fraud, theft, receiving stolen property, and possession of an instrument of crime. The warrant for his arrest was officially issued on October 7, 2024, by District Court 15-3-04.
Authorities have released Curtis’s description to aid in his apprehension. He is described as a Black male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. The Kennett Square Police Department has urged anyone with information on Curtis’s whereabouts to contact them at 610-444-0501 or to submit tips online.
It is crucial to note that a criminal complaint or an arrest does not equate to a finding of guilt. Curtis, like any defendant, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing.
