Fatal Hit-and-Run in Wilmington Leaves Pedestrian Dead

WILMINGTON, DE — The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run incident that occurred late Friday night, resulting in the death of a male victim whose identity is being withheld until next-of-kin notifications are complete.

The crash took place on April 4, 2025, at approximately 11:36 p.m. on Augustine Cut-Off south of Alapocas Drive. According to investigators, the pedestrian was walking southbound in the travel lane when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle traveling in the same direction. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene, continuing southbound on Augustine Cut-Off.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The roadway was closed for around three hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the area.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the incident and is appealing to the public for help. Witnesses or individuals with information about the crash or the fleeing vehicle are encouraged to contact Sergeant J. Jefferson at (302) 365-8484.
