Deadly Robbery at New Castle Motel! Police Hunt for Suspect in Fatal Shooting

NEW CASTLE, DE — The Delaware State Police have launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night at the Budget Inn in New Castle.

Authorities reported that, at approximately 8:21 p.m. on December 22, 2024, troopers responded to a call about a shooting at the motel, located on Memorial Drive. When officers arrived, they found a 49-year-old Wilmington man in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family. According to a preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred during a robbery in the rear parking lot of the motel. Currently, police have not released a description of the suspect.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, which remains active. Detectives are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the suspect.
