WILMINGTON, DE — The Delaware Department of Justice has successfully concluded a prolonged investigation into a cold case murder, resulting in significant prison time for Nasir Anderson. Anderson, 24, received a sentence of 102 years, with 23 years to be served in prison, for his role in the 2018 murder of Richard Young. This outcome follows a guilty plea covering charges of Murder Second Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Robbery First Degree, and Conspiracy Second Degree.
The case dates back to February 25, 2018, when Anderson, along with an accomplice, entered Young’s Wilmington apartment on Market Street. Armed and masked, their intent was robbery; however, the crime escalated, leading to Young being shot multiple times. Despite the case going cold over the years, Wilmington Police and their Cold Case Unit persisted, leading to Anderson’s arrest in 2023. The second suspect in the case had been identified but was killed in July 2018.
Attorney General Kathy Jennings emphasized the department’s commitment to justice, stating, “This case, which lingered for years, demonstrates our dedication in pursuing justice for victims and their families.” Her sentiments were echoed by Chief Wilfredo Campos, who highlighted the relentless efforts of investigators in bringing perpetrators to justice.
This sentencing not only underscores the resolve of law enforcement agencies to address unsolved cases but also aims to provide closure to the family and friends of Richard Young.
