Coatesville Pedalcycle Chase Ends with Arrest, Loaded Pistol, and Drugs

Police News

COATESVILLE, PA — The City of Coatesville Police Department announced the arrest of a man for illegally possessing a loaded .45 caliber handgun.

Marquise Winkey has been charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

The criminal complaint alleges that on August 10, 2023, officers observed a male operating a pedalcycle at night without the proper front lamp. The operator failed to stop at a stop sign and drove the wrong way down a one-way street in the 1000 block of East Diamond Street. Officers attempted to stop the male, but he reported fled. The male then crashed into a pole in the 900 block of East Chesnut Street and continued to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect abandoned a black bag over a fence and onto North Ninth Avenue.

The male, later identified as Marquise Winkey, was taken into custody without further incident. Police located and searched the abandoned bag, seizing a loaded .45 caliber pistol with an obliterated serial number. Winkey was also reported to have been found to be in possession of marijuana and crack cocaine.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
