Coatesville Man Arrested for Art Theft at Local Restaurant

WEST CHESTER, PA — A Coatesville man has been arrested for allegedly stealing artwork from a local Mexican restaurant. The West Chester Police Department stated that the theft occurred on August 25, 2023, around 12:50 p.m.

The crime took place at Mas Cantina, located at 102 E Market St, West Chester. According to the police report, officers responded to a call from the restaurant staff about a theft. Upon arrival, the officers were shown video footage of a male patron removing a piece of art from the wall of the restaurant and leaving the premises with the artwork in hand.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the officers identified the suspect as 36-year-old Gregory Stewart of Coatesville, PA. Stewart turned himself into the West Chester Police Department on September 5, 2023, after an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

Stewart has been charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking and Receiving Stolen Property. He was arraigned by Judge Vito at District Court 15-1-04 and released on bail. A preliminary hearing is pending.
