WILMINGTON, DE — A drug investigation in Wilmington on January 28, 2025, resulted in an officer-involved shooting and the arrest of a 32-year-old man facing multiple charges.

At approximately 1 p.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were conducting a routine investigation near 10th and Kirkwood Streets. During their efforts, a man identified as Calvin Warren attempted to evade police by fleeing in a vehicle, reportedly driving on the sidewalk and endangering public safety.

An officer discharged their firearm, striking Warren once. Officers immediately rendered aid, and Warren was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Law enforcement confirmed that Warren was in possession of 3.2 grams of cocaine and driving a vehicle reported stolen from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Authorities allege that while attempting to flee, Warren struck another vehicle and drove toward two bystanders. Following an arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, Warren faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Two counts of Reckless Endangering in the First Degree
  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

He remains in custody under $50,305 cash-only bail.

The officer involved in the incident was uninjured and has been placed on administrative leave, per departmental protocol, as investigations by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards, and the Delaware Department of Justice continue.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that criminal charges are allegations, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
