PHILADELPHIA, PA — Two Philadelphia men have been sentenced to nearly a decade in federal prison for their roles in separate carjacking incidents. United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced the sentences this week, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to address the surge in violent crimes.

Asiem Brooking, aged 21, received a sentence of 117 months in prison, accompanied by three years of supervised release, following his conviction for an armed carjacking in the Olney neighborhood. On the evening of January 28, 2023, Brooking approached a 54-year-old man who was exiting his Nissan Altima on North 6th Street. Brandishing a firearm, Brooking threatened the victim, demanding his wallet and keys before escaping in the Altima. Following his indictment in May 2023 for carjacking and firearm offenses, Brooking pled guilty in July.

In a separate case, Marc Anthony, also known as Nasir Johnson, aged 22, was sentenced to 115 months in prison with five years of supervised release for a similar crime. On January 6, 2022, Anthony, alongside an unidentified accomplice, confronted a 40-year-old woman at gunpoint as she parked her Hyundai Sonata in the Fairmount area. After a tense encounter where the victim struggled to retrieve her dog from the vehicle, Anthony and his accomplice fled with the stolen car. Charged in May 2022, Anthony admitted to the charges in May 2023, leading to his sentencing.

U.S. Attorney Romero emphasized the gravity of these offenses, stating, “These criminals who think nothing of terrorizing our community at gunpoint are a true priority for my office, the FBI, and our partners on the Philadelphia Carjacking Task Force.” She reaffirmed the collective efforts of law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety and bring offenders to justice.
