WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police Department has unveiled new sketches in their ongoing effort to identify a woman whose remains were discovered near the Christina River earlier this month. Created by the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, the sketches depict two tattoos found on the victim’s body, which authorities hope will prompt public recognition and assistance.

Police first initiated the investigation on March 4, 2025, after officers responded to a report of a body found on the banks of the Christina River in the 1100 block of East 7th Street. Upon arrival, they recovered decomposed remains, which were subsequently examined by forensic specialists.

Preliminary findings indicate the victim was a white female, estimated to be between 25 to 35 years old, who may have been in the river since December. Although no immediate signs of foul play were detected during the autopsy, investigators have not yet determined the cause of death.

Detectives are urging anyone who might recognize the tattoos or have information about the case to come forward. Detective James Rook of the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is leading the inquiry. He can be reached at (302) 576-3621 or via email at James.Rook@CJ.State.de.us.

Officials stress the importance of community cooperation in bringing clarity to this case. The public’s assistance could be crucial in uncovering the identity of the deceased woman and providing closure to her family.
