Businessman Accused of $29K Fake Check Scheme Arrested in Shocking Fraud Case

Arrest

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Authorities confirmed that a 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to deposit a counterfeit check into his business account.

On January 25, 2025, officers from the Kennett Square Police Department transported Nathanial Curtis from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 25th District to Chester County Prison. The transfer followed an arrest warrant issued for Curtis in October 2024.

Investigators allege that on December 27, 2023, Curtis deposited an altered check worth $29,950 into his business account via an ATM in Philadelphia. Officials say the check was determined to be counterfeit. Despite the attempt, Kennett Square Borough’s internal financial systems reportedly prevented any monetary loss.

Cellular records obtained during the investigation allegedly placed Curtis at the ATM at the time of the deposit. Based on this evidence, an arrest warrant was issued by District Court 15-3-04 on October 7, 2024.

The suspect was officially charged and taken into custody after arrangements were made to transport him to Chester County.

Officials remind the public that all allegations remain under investigation, and Curtis is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
