Attempted Burglary Thwarted by Alert Residents in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, PA — Residents of a home in the 500 block of South Walnut Street, West Chester, played a crucial role in averting a potential burglary in the early hours of Wednesday, November 8th, 2023. West Chester Police were dispatched to the residence around 3:00 am following a report of an attempted break-in.

The residents had received a notification from one of their security cameras indicating movement inside their property. On checking, they observed an unknown individual lurking outside at the rear of the property. The suspect was described as approximately 5′ 9″, heavily built, dressed all in black, and wearing a white mask. The individual was also carrying a duffle bag.

Upon noticing the intruder, the residents raised an alarm, yelling at the individual who promptly fled the scene. The suspect was last seen fleeing between properties located in the 500 block of South High Street.

The West Chester Police Department is now seeking assistance from the public to identify and locate the suspect involved in this attempted burglary. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the West Chester Police at 610-696-2700. As the investigation continues, it is hoped that the information provided by the public will lead to a swift resolution of the case.
