WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have apprehended a man on gun-related allegations following an incident late on Christmas night.
On December 25, at approximately 11:12 p.m., officers from the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 100 block of North Market Street after receiving a report of an individual allegedly carrying a firearm. Upon arriving at the scene, police identified 21-year-old Van Swafford as the suspect. Swafford was taken into custody without resistance, and officers discovered he was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
Following the arrest, Swafford was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and aggravated menacing. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently released on $21,000 unsecured bail.
Authorities remind the public that all charges are allegations and that Swafford, like any individual facing criminal charges, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
