Arrest Made in Shocking 2024 Wilmington Armed Robbery Case

WILMINGTON, DE — A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery that took place in Wilmington last September, according to law enforcement officials.

The Wilmington Police Department stated that officers responded to a report of an armed robbery on September 23, 2024, at approximately 11:04 a.m. The incident occurred in the 2400 block of Washington Street. Following the report, the case was assigned to Detective Douglas Rivell of the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.

Through detailed investigative efforts, Detective Rivell identified Michael Smith as a suspect and secured warrants for his arrest. At the time of these developments, Smith was already in custody at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an unrelated matter.

Smith has been formally charged with several offenses, including first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony.

After his arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Smith remains at the correctional institution under a $56,000 cash-only bail.

Authorities have noted that all allegations remain under investigation, and Smith, like all suspects, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
