Armed with Hedge Clippers: Wilmington Man Allegedly Robs Teen of Bike Near Delaware Park

WILMINGTON, DEDelaware State Police have arrested 22-year-old Anthony Ortiz of Wilmington in connection with an alleged robbery involving a 16-year-old victim near Delaware Park.

The incident occurred on April 6, 2025, at approximately 2:15 p.m. According to authorities, the teenage victim was riding his bicycle near the park when Ortiz reportedly approached him. The suspect allegedly followed the teen as he walked away, threatening him with a pair of hedge clippers. Fearing for his safety, the victim dropped his bicycle, and the suspect fled the scene with it.

The victim quickly contacted 9-1-1, providing detailed information about the suspect. Responding troopers canvassed the area and apprehended Ortiz a short time later without incident. Fortunately, the teen was unharmed during the encounter.

Following his arrest, Ortiz was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree, a felony offense. He was later arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $30,000 secured bond.

The Delaware State Police remind the public that Ortiz, like all suspects, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
