PHILADELPHIA, PA– — Nafec Pressley, a 28-year-old Philadelphia resident, has been sentenced to 150 months in prison following his conviction for the armed robbery of a Northeast Philadelphia store. United States District Court Judge Kai N. Scott delivered the sentence, which also includes five years of supervised release, reflecting the severity of Pressley’s actions in late 2022.
The crime took place on the afternoon of November 20, 2022, at a dollar store located on the 6900 block of Bustleton Avenue. Pressley approached the counter while an employee attended to customers. After engaging in brief conversation, Pressley brandished a semiautomatic pistol, demanding money from the store employee. Faced with the threat, the victim handed over more than $300 from the cash register and additional cash from the counter. Pressley continued to escalate the situation by threatening the victim’s wife as she descended the stairs, prompting a tense exchange that nearly turned deadly.
In a dramatic turn, the victim retrieved his own firearm and a shootout ensued inside the store. Pressley was struck multiple times but managed to flee after firing several shots, none of which hit the victim. Subsequently, Pressley sought medical attention at a local hospital for gunshot wounds. Law enforcement officials recovered approximately $371 from his clothing at the hospital.
U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero commented on the case, stating, “Nafec Pressley nearly got himself killed because he’d rather steal money than work for it. He’s extremely fortunate he didn’t kill anyone else when he opened fire in that store.” She emphasized the commitment of her office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Philadelphia Police Department to curb such violent acts and enhance public safety.
Eric DeGree, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Philadelphia Field Division, reiterated this commitment, noting, “We will not let violent criminals like Nafec Pressley terrorize Philadelphia’s businesses and communities.” He praised the collaborative efforts with local law enforcement, underscoring the priority of ensuring justice and community safety.
The case was meticulously investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department in conjunction with the ATF, culminating in the successful prosecution by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
