POTTSTOWN, PA — The North Coventry Police Department announced the arrest of a 32-year-old Pottstown resident following a disturbance at the AT&T store located at 1108 Town Square Road in Pottstown.
Michael Dwite Kirlew, Jr. has been charged with four counts of Simple Assault, four counts of Harassment, four counts of Terroristic Threats, two counts of Possession of a Weapon, and numerous additional related crimes.
The criminal complaint alleges that on May 23, 2023, the North Coventry Township Police Department responded to the AT&T store regarding an incident that took place on May 19, 2023. It was reported that a male, later identified as 32-year-old Michael Kirlew of Pottstown, came to the store at approximately 12:43 PM while yelling at someone on the phone as he exited his vehicle. Kirlew appeared visibly upset and repeatedly demanded the person he was speaking to on the phone rectify an issue he was having with his cell phone. Kirlew then entered the store and had two handguns in his hand as he proceeded to an employee’s desk. Kirlew then put the guns on the desk and continued to yell about someone needing to fix his issues. Employees in the store were able to convince Kirlew to secure his weapons and speak to them in a calm manner. Kirlew then concealed his guns and conducted his business in the store and left.
Following an investigation, officers obtained a felony arrest warrant for Kirlew on May 26, 2023. Later that day, Kirlew turned himself in to the North Coventry Township Police Department and was taken into custody without incident. He was processed and arraigned without any issues and is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.
