WILMINGTON, DE — A Newark woman has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle thefts and shoplifting incidents that occurred over several months in New Castle County, according to the Delaware State Police.
Authorities allege that Christina Cerroni, 46, was involved in multiple motor vehicle thefts reported between September 27, 2024, and December 29, 2024, in Wilmington and Newark. Investigators state that in each instance, the vehicles were left unsecured and unattended, providing an opportunity for theft.
Through investigative efforts, Cerroni was identified as the suspect in these vehicle theft cases. Troopers also connected her to four alleged shoplifting incidents at a Target store in the Christiana Mall. The shoplifting events, which reportedly took place in April and May of 2024, involved over $1,000 in merchandise.
Attempts to locate Cerroni were unsuccessful until December 30, 2024, when a trooper responded to a complaint about a disorderly woman refusing to leave the Delaware Park Casino premises. The woman was identified as Cerroni upon contact with law enforcement. According to reports, Cerroni initially provided a false name, but the responding trooper recognized her due to prior investigations and confirmed her identity through existing warrants.
Cerroni was taken into custody and transported to Troop 2 for processing, where she was formally charged with multiple offenses, including five counts of motor vehicle theft, five counts of shoplifting under $1,500, theft under $1,500, criminal impersonation, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, third-degree criminal trespass, and public intoxication.
She was subsequently arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and remanded to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $2,000 cash bond.
Officials emphasize that all charges remain allegations at this stage, and Cerroni is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Details of the investigation may evolve as new information becomes available.
