NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police have announced the arrest of Michael Martino, a 33-year-old resident of New Castle, Delaware, following an alleged burglary incident at a commercial property early Wednesday morning. The event unfolded at approximately 6:10 a.m. on November 6, 2024, when troopers responded to the AT&T building located on Southgate Boulevard after receiving a repeated alarm notification.
Upon arrival, law enforcement conducted a thorough property inspection, during which they encountered an AT&T employee who alerted them to the presence of an unknown individual atop the building. Troopers subsequently discovered the suspect, identified as Michael Martino, on a catwalk that connects the building to a cell tower. Martino adhered to the officers’ instructions to descend from the catwalk and was subsequently taken into custody without any reported complications.
Further investigation revealed that Martino allegedly caused significant damage to the facility’s roof, which served as his point of entry into the building, resulting in several thousand dollars in damages.
Following his arrest, Martino was transported to Troop 2 where he faced formal charges. The charges against him include Attempted Burglary in the Third Degree, a felony, Criminal Mischief involving damage of $5,000 or more, also a felony, and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree. Martino was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and subsequently released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
Authorities remind the public that these charges are merely allegations and emphasize that any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
