PHILADELPHIA, PA — ZeroEyes, a recognized leader in AI gun detection technology, has applauded the Michigan legislature for enacting Public Act 103 (PA 103), which allocates significant funding towards enhancing school safety. This law provides $168 million for general safety improvements in schools, with $3 million specifically earmarked for the acquisition of AI gun detection software.

As of May 1, 2024, all funds have been distributed to school districts to bolster their safety infrastructure. Under PA 103, both public and nonpublic schools received financial support to enhance student safety measures, including the implementation of firearm detection tools like ZeroEyes. This software leverages existing digital security cameras to detect firearms and alert school authorities and law enforcement.

The deployment of ZeroEyes’ software has been extensive, with over 4,000 cameras integrated into the platform across various Michigan schools, leading to the detection of numerous firearms. These efforts have significantly contributed to positive outcomes in law enforcement interventions, ensuring heightened security for students and staff.

ZeroEyes’ technology is now operational in dozens of K-12 districts and non-public schools throughout Michigan. The recent funding has facilitated the expansion of this system into 15 additional school districts, safeguarding thousands of students and staff members across hundreds of educational institutions.

The AI-driven software by ZeroEyes enhances existing security systems by providing real-time alerts to the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), the only fully in-house operation center in the U.S. Upon confirming a threat, experts at ZOC provide detailed alerts that include a description of the suspect, the type of firearm, and the last known location, with response times as fast as 3 to 5 seconds.

Kieran Carroll, Chief Strategy Officer at ZeroEyes, expressed gratitude towards Michigan’s lawmakers, stating, “ZeroEyes commends the Michigan legislature and the governor for proactively providing funding to school districts who are looking to implement next-generation security capability.” He emphasized the high demand from districts for this critical capability and the positive results achieved, urging policymakers to continue expanding the grant program in future years.

To qualify for PA 103 funding, schools were required to submit applications detailing their plans for the use of funds, incorporating community feedback. The demand for AI gun detection funding was 500% over-requested, reflecting the critical need for such technology in ensuring school safety.
