YARDLEY, PA — In a significant development for the residents of Yardley Borough, State Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and State Representative Perry Warren (D-31) this week announced a grant of $1,031,451 aimed at completing the final phase of the North Main Street sidewalk upgrades. This project, which has been in progress in various stages, is designed to enhance pedestrian safety, promote local economic development, and foster community connectivity in this bustling area.

Yardley Borough, known for its vibrant restaurants and businesses along Main Street, has seen substantial improvements with each phase of the sidewalk project. Senator Santarsiero expressed his long-standing support for the initiative, stating, “Each phase of Yardley Borough’s North Main Street project has improved pedestrian safety, boosting access to the many local businesses. I have proudly supported this project since its inception and look forward to seeing this project finally completed.”

The project not only aims to improve pedestrian safety but also enhances recreational opportunities and strengthens the community fabric by connecting residents of Yardley and Lower Makefield. Representative Warren highlighted the project’s broader implications, thanking past and present members of the Yardley Borough Council for their commitment to seeing the project through to completion.

The final phase of the project includes crucial tasks such as utility relocations, repaving parts of North Main Street, and constructing sidewalks through Dolington Road. Previous phases, also supported by state funds secured by Sen. Santarsiero and Rep. Warren, have laid the groundwork for this final push towards full connectivity.

Yardley Borough President Caroline Thompson emphasized the project’s significance, saying, “This, N. Main Street Phase III sidewalk completion project, is the final piece to connect our residents on the northern side of town to our bustling business district for shopping and dining and to the canal towpath for recreation and exercise.” She praised the cooperation between Yardley Borough, Lower Makefield, and state government officials, highlighting the collaborative effort that has made the project a success.

Council Vice President and Public Works Chair Uri Feiner reflected on the origins of the project, recalling how residents’ requests for a sidewalk nearly two decades ago have culminated in this grant that will finally complete the essential connection. “This is a huge step in our commitment to making every part of our one-square-mile walkable borough truly—and safely—walkable,” Feiner added.

With the completion of this project, Yardley Borough takes a significant stride towards becoming a more walkable, connected, and vibrant community, setting an example for municipalities across Pennsylvania.
