WILMINGTON, DE — The WSFS CARES Foundation, the charitable arm of WSFS Bank (Nasdaq: WSFS), has announced grants to two Wilmington-based organizations. These grants are part of the foundation’s ongoing philanthropic efforts.
Be Ready Community Development Corp. received a $200,000 grant, to be disbursed over two years. Founded in 2003, Be Ready CDC aims to revitalize Wilmington’s Hilltop neighborhood. The latest grant will support the second phase of the Solomon’s Court Project, adding 12 more affordable rental units and 5,600 square feet of commercial space. This is part of an $11 million initiative to enhance housing in the West Side.
TeenSHARP, another grant recipient, will get $300,000 over three years. This national nonprofit, based in Wilmington, helps Black, Latino, and low-income students gain admission to top U.S. colleges with minimal debt. The WSFS grant will support TeenSHARP’s A-List program, which guides high school students through college and into their careers, fostering leadership and financial stability.
Patrick J. Ward, Executive Vice President and Pennsylvania Market President at WSFS Bank, emphasized the foundation’s commitment. “Our continued support of these two organizations emphasizes our shared commitments to improving the daily lives of local residents through education and leadership development, affordable housing accessibility, and more,” he said.
Pastor Margaret Moon-Taylor, Executive Director of Be Ready CDC, expressed her gratitude. “The funding from WSFS means that the vision for our community is going to become a reality,” she noted.
Tamara Fentress, Chief of Staff at TeenSHARP, highlighted the impact of the foundation’s support. “WSFS’ initial grant was a springboard to resource deeper application and sustainability of our programming delivery to students in a virtual setting,” she said, adding, “Now, with their continued support, we’re excited about what’s ahead.”
These grants reflect WSFS CARES Foundation’s dedication to supporting initiatives that foster community development and educational advancement.
