PHILADELPHIA, PA — As part of the Women’s History Month celebrations, East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) is set to revive its lauded Women Mean Business event. In association with She Rocked It, this community gathering is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, at the Society Hill Dance Academy.
Women Mean Business is by no means just another event – it is an empowering forum that brings together local women business owners to share their experiences and success stories. The event aims to create a platform for an open dialogue about the challenges of running a business, along with business growth strategies.
Karen Gross, renowned performer, entrepreneurial spirit, and the founder of She Rocked It, will be leading the event. The forum is open to all and is especially designed to inspire women who are already in business, planning to start one, or exploring the idea.
This year’s panel will see some incredible women sharing their entrepreneurial journeys. The event will feature Chef Tova du Plessis of Essen Bakery, Monica Nguyen of Meraki Luxe Spa, Christina Rosso-Schneider of A Novel Idea, and Emily Rodia of Good Buy Supply.
East Passyunk Avenue is currently home to over 160 independent businesses, with women making up 50% of business owners. Women Mean Business takes inspiration from these incredible women and opens up a platform for stories that motivate and lift each other up.
“East Passyunk Avenue embodies the unique spirit of independently-owned businesses that dot the city. The majority of the businesses here are run by diverse women, both locally and internationally. These women have challenged stereotypes and are actively pursuing their dreams,” says EPABID Executive Director Rebecca O’Leary.
The event promises to be a melting pot of learning and networking opportunities for locals and visitors alike. Those keen on starting a business can get a sneak peek into the careers of their favorite entrepreneurs, hear their stories firsthand, and connect with like-minded individuals.
From her beginnings as a humble nail technician to now owning the Meraki Luxe Spa, Monica Nguyen’s journey is a testament to her tenacity. Similarly, Chef Tova du Plessis turned her childhood passion into the successful Essen Bakery, never allowing the hurdles of the pandemic to deter her. Emily Rodia’s journey, from graduation to running Good Buy Supply, is another inspiring story of entrepreneurship. Christina Rosso-Schneider, a celebrated author, together with her husband, runs A Novel Idea, a community-loved bookstore and event space.
Following the panel discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session. Previous panelists from Women Mean Business will also be in attendance to share updates on their businesses.
Alongside networking and business discussions, the attendees can enjoy complimentary light bites courtesy of P’UNK Burger and libations from East Passyunk.
Designed for an audience of all ages, tickets for the event are priced at $10 and are selling fast. With an event space capacity of roughly 200 people, it’s recommended to purchase tickets in advance.
Women Mean Business is sponsored by Society Hill Dance Academy, P’UNK Burger, and Samuels and Son. The event is open to all ages; tickets are ten per person and are available to purchase at isiteastpassyunk.com/event/women-mean-business/.
