WILMINGTON, DE — A woman has been arrested by Wilmington Police in relation to a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place nearly two years ago.
On the afternoon of April 14, 2022, a three-vehicle collision occurred on the 2000 block of Baynard Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found Maurice Johnson, a 61-year-old driver involved in the incident, in critical condition. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Johnson later succumbed to his injuries on May 23, 2023.
The case was assigned to the Wilmington Police Traffic Division – Collision Reconstruction Unit for thorough investigation. After almost two years of meticulous work, the case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury earlier this month, on February 12, 2024.
Following the presentation, an indictment was returned for 53-year-old Maila Madric. Subsequently, Madric was taken into custody without incident on February 14, 2024.
Madric faces charges of manslaughter and driving a vehicle under the influence of a drug, in addition to several traffic violations. Following her arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 20, Madric was released on $17,500 unsecured bail.
As with all criminal proceedings, it’s important to remember that an arrest or charge is not indicative of guilt. Madric, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The details surrounding this case may change as the investigation continues and additional information emerges.
