Wilmington Tragedy: Pedestrian Struck and Killed by SUV

WILMINGTON, DEDelaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred late Friday night on Kirkwood Highway. The incident, which tragically resulted in the death of a Wilmington resident, happened on April 25, 2025, at approximately 11:24 p.m.

According to the police, a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound in the left lane of Kirkwood Highway near the intersection of North Woodward Avenue. For reasons yet to be determined, a pedestrian entered the roadway from the north side and crossed into the SUV’s path. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, identified by authorities as 43-year-old Thomas Pusey of Wilmington, Delaware.

Mr. Pusey was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Jeep, a 31-year-old man also from Wilmington, was not injured during the incident.

The accident prompted a temporary closure of the roadway for roughly two hours while authorities conducted their on-site investigation and cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
