WILMINGTON, DE —In a swift response to a vehicle theft report, the Wilmington Police Department apprehended a 16-year-old male suspect on December 18. The teen is also alleged to have been in possession of a small amount of marijuana at the time of his arrest.
Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East 14th Street around 7:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle. The stolen car was subsequently located in the 900 block of Wilson Street. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing multiple juveniles fleeing from the vehicle upon its discovery.
Following a brief foot chase, police officers apprehended the alleged driver, a 16-year-old male. Upon his arrest, the teenager was found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana, according to police reports.
The young man, whose identity remains protected due to his juvenile status, faces several charges including theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $1,500, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest, in addition to several traffic violations.
Following his arraignment in New Castle County Family Court, the teenager was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. As this is an ongoing investigation, further details regarding the case have not been released.
